Overview
This senior executive-level position sits at the top of the technical escalation chain and doubles as a project lead for dental practice clients. You will design and implement core infrastructure, own security controls across client environments, and mentor junior technicians. You don’t need prior dental IT experience, but you do need a strong background in networking, servers, and infrastructure with the ability to communicate clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Remote work may become available after one year, contingent on performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Act as the final escalation point for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support, taking ownership of unresolved issues and delivering permanent resolutions.
- Conduct root cause analyses on recurring problems and develop documentation, playbooks, and standards to prevent reoccurrence.
- Design and implement dental practice network architectures, including VLAN segmentation, firewall policies, routing, VPN/overlay connectivity, and multi-site WAN strategy.
- Lead the technical aspects of new client onboarding and dental office buildouts, covering structured cabling, low-voltage scoping, server/workstation deployment, and cutover planning.
- Build and maintain core infrastructure components such as virtualization hosts, Windows Server, Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, DNS/DHCP, and backup & disaster recovery.
- Deeply integrate and troubleshoot dental practice management and imaging software, with training provided, alongside the related hardware ecosystem.
- Implement and maintain security controls including endpoint protection, managed detection & response, network segmentation, and MFA across all clients.
- Mentor and develop Tier 1 and Tier 2 technicians, reviewing their work and elevating the technical bar across the team.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to dental practice owners, translating infrastructure decisions into business-friendly terms.
- Document client environments, solutions, and project work thoroughly within the PSA/ticketing system.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive IT experience, with demonstrated time at a senior or Tier 3 level or as a systems engineer.
- Proven ability to design and implement networks and server infrastructure independently, not merely maintain them.
- Strong networking fundamentals with hands-on experience configuring firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, and multi-site connectivity.
- A track record of leading projects and serving as an escalation point for other technicians.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and a client-facing demeanor.
- Self-directed and accountable, with good judgment on when to escalate, decide, or document.
- A desire to specialize in dental IT as a focus area.
