At Buchanan Technologies, the Desktop Support Technician role supports an R&D laboratory environment in Lake Forest, California. This onsite position provides hands-on end-user and lab computer support, handling desktops, laptops, and scientific applications while overseeing security, backups, and vendor coordination. The role offers a salary range of USD 62,000 to 65,000 per year and requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and configure Windows desktops and laptops from the sanctioned image, including system setup and user profiles.
- Install required software and set up local user accounts with appropriate administrative rights.
- Install, configure, and support laboratory, engineering, and scientific software.
- Diagnose and repair hardware, software, printing, and workstation issues.
- Support specialized scientific software and laboratory equipment through troubleshooting.
- Coordinate workstation relocations and equipment moves as needed.
- Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to resolve complex problems and arrange warranty service.
- Create and maintain documentation for hardware builds, software installations, and support procedures.
- Update security and access logs for restricted-use laboratory computers.
- Oversee and troubleshoot computer backups and Windows data backups.
- Maintain hardware inventory and record incoming and outgoing equipment.
- Create one-time administrative accounts and passwords when authorized.
- Create Active Directory groups via Saviynt requests.
- Test network drops and coordinate requests for new cabling.
- Manage and troubleshoot Acronis disaster recovery solutions for laboratory systems.
- Remediate security vulnerabilities and apply patches to laboratory computers.
- Administer local administrative access following approved processes.
- Handle support requests received through tickets, email, verbal instructions, and the Global Service Desk.
Requirements
- At least three years of desktop, laboratory, or end-user IT support experience.
- Experience imaging and configuring Windows desktops and laptops.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting software and hardware.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, user access management, and administrative permissions.
- Experience supporting backups, disaster recovery, and security patching.
- Ability to diagnose unique or nonrecurring technical issues.
- Strong documentation, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with users, vendors, and technical teams.
