Job Description

Miles IT is seeking a part-time Onsite IT Consultant to deliver hands-on support and technology implementation for small to mid-sized businesses. This role blends practical consulting with technical troubleshooting, providing on-site assistance in the metro area while coordinating with remote teammates to apply effective IT solutions.

Responsibilities

Travel to client sites within the metro area when on-site presence is required.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network issues with support from remote personnel.
Deploy and integrate new technology with assistance from remote colleagues.
Assess client support needs to identify appropriate technology solutions.
Maintain strong and clear communication with customers.
Document work performed and capture essential technical information for clients.

Requirements

Ability to diagnose and repair hardware and software problems on desktops and servers.
Experience installing and troubleshooting on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, Exchange, DNS.
End-user and help desk experience with MS Office Suite and other common desktop applications.
Experience troubleshooting network issues tied to network infrastructure such as switches and routers.
Configuring TCP/IP settings on networks and solving related TCP/IP problems.
Certifications such as A+, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP, CNE, CCNA are a plus but not required.
Must reside in close proximity to the Metro Area for on-site support.

Job Description

Hours are not guaranteed, with a recurring client assignment every other week.
The role provides a flexible option for occasional supplemental income rather than a guaranteed monthly salary.
The Onsite IT Consultant helps SMB customers operate more efficiently through appropriate use of current technologies, requiring strong customer-focused consulting paired with solid technical and troubleshooting skills. The role combines onsite support with technology implementation across multiple client sites.
Most requests occur during business hours, with possible after-hours support on occasion.
Requests are flexible; there is no penalty for being unavailable for a specific task.
Demand varies by area: some regions have high volumes of requests, others may have few clients, with ongoing growth in lower-volume areas.
In low-volume areas, client requests may range from once a month to once every three months.
