Columbia, South Carolina onsite position for the Audit Calibration and Technical Support Analysis Section Manager within DAQA, directing calibration, maintenance, and QA for ambient air monitoring instruments and sites; bachelor’s degree required; salary range USD 77,713 - 90,500 per year.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the section staff, providing supervision and direction.
- Maintain supplies, service contracts, equipment certifications, and related needs to ensure uninterrupted service and complete data sets.
- Coordinate annual training for Regional Field staff or more frequent sessions as required.
- Pursue process improvements and operational efficiencies within the Audit, Calibration and Technical Support section.
- Keep all required documentation current and updated within established timeframes.
- Direct timely equipment repairs and ongoing maintenance, including management of spare units.
- Maintain an accurate inventory database, record new equipment, and update locations as items move.
- Provide professional and technical guidance to agency management, public and private officials, consultants, and industries on ambient air monitor maintenance, operation, and QA requirements.
- Advise management on resources and training necessary to meet section workload.
- Prepare and review reports related to ambient air monitor operation and quality assurance activities.
- Develop, review, and implement Standard Operating Procedures for ambient air analyzers and related equipment.
- Ensure SOP creation and approval within EPA timeframes and conduct annual or more frequent reviews and updates.
- Collect and assess data from ambient air analyzers to evaluate monitor efficiency and adherence to operating procedures.
- Research current developments in instrumentation and analytical techniques applicable to ambient air monitoring.
- Complete the Employee Performance Management System according to Agency guidelines.
- Promote adoption of the SCDES Strategic Plan within the section.
- Complete all necessary administrative tasks (PCAS, SCEIS) and related documentation as required.
- Perform additional duties as requested or required.
Requirements
- Strong technical expertise in ambient air monitoring systems and field operations.
- Experience operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting ambient monitoring equipment.
- Ability to achieve objectives in a timely and professional manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Office 365 applications.
- Experience with QAPPS, SOP development, and field QA/QC practices.
- Ability to exercise considerable judgment in daily duties.
- Effective teamwork skills; ability to foster positive relationships with coworkers, industry partners, and government officials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to attend periodic staff meetings and trainings.
- Available to work 37.5 hours per week, with possible weekends and emergencies as required.
- Valid driver’s license and a 10-year driving record meeting State and Agency Fleet guidelines; ability to operate a state vehicle.
