Job Description

The Technical Support - In Vivo/ Animal Care-Research Technician provides hands-on laboratory support for nonclinical research studies. The position is onsite in Wilmington, MA and includes CGMP-compliant laboratory procedures, daily dosing/test article administration, and animal care assistance in a busy research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory procedures in accordance with CGMP regulations applicable to nonclinical research study conduct.
  • Support daily test article/substance administration, including observation and recording of species physical signs for contracted laboratory studies.
  • Prepare cage tags and individual animal number tags; prepare and autoclave cages.
  • Prepare and assist with preparation of data forms for routine and specialized study procedures.
  • Record study parameters as required by study protocol.
  • Maintain appropriate supply of dosage equipment throughout the study period.
  • Assist in ensuring supplies of additional study-specified materials (for example, blood collection tubes).
  • Assist in preparation of test agents.
  • Generate periodic summarization of data.
  • Ensure raw data records are accurate, complete, in appropriate order, and meet protocol specifications and/or GCGMP requirements.
  • Assist with coordination efforts involving project managers and technical staff in planning and conducting studies.
  • Support planning and coordinating departmental activities through hands-on technical assistance, communication with animal production/lab personnel, and occasional delegation to other personnel.
  • Share responsibility for maintaining appropriate inventory levels for departmental supplies.
  • Maintain proficiency in all departmental SOPs and demonstrate general knowledge of lab/production processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree (A.A. IAS.) in Biological Sciences or related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Experience: One to two years of related technical experience.
  • Certification/Licensure: ALAT certification preferred.
  • Additional education: Bachelor's degree preferred.

Animal Handling and Comfort Requirement

This role works with animals and requires comfort handling mice and guinea pigs (and similar animals). A respirator fit test may be required, based on manager assessment.

Schedule

  • M–Th: 6:00am–3:00pm
  • F: 6:00am–12:00pm

Work Location and Duration

This is an in-person role located in Wilmington, MA. Employment duration is 12+ months.

Compensation

  • $23.00–$24.00 per hour
  • $24/hour

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Works in a busy research environment involving sharp objects, mechanical parts, and exposure risks around known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards.
  • May be exposed to fumes and airborne particles, and may handle biological samples with risk of zoonotic disease and biohazards.
  • Noise levels range from low to moderate depending on the task.
  • Regularly required to move about inside the laboratory, communicate, and operate a computer.
  • Frequently must remain stationary while performing lab tasks and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to use PPE, including gloves, protective clothing, and eye protection.
