L3Harris Technologies is hiring an on-site Desktop Support Technician for its manufacturing and engineering facility in Ashburn, VA. In this role, you will provide advanced, proactive IT support that keeps production and engineering workflows moving by resolving complex hardware, software, and network issues.
You will work within a helpdesk environment, handle escalations, and support facility-wide initiatives while maintaining strong documentation and adherence to IT governance and cybersecurity expectations.
What you’ll do
- Address user-reported IT issues through helpdesk tickets, phone, or in-person support, delivering first-line troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
- Support escalations from Level 1 by performing deeper troubleshooting across desktops, laptops, servers, printers, and specialized peripherals used in manufacturing and engineering.
- Install, configure, and upgrade hardware and software, including advanced operating systems and enterprise applications such as Microsoft Office 365, as well as ERP systems like SAP, and engineering tools including CAD/CAM and simulation programs.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues across LAN/WAN environments, including switches, routers, firewalls, and integrations with industrial control systems such as PLCs, SCADA, and IoT networks.
- Perform proactive maintenance tasks, including patch management, performance tuning, and backup and recovery, along with security audits to reduce risk to production and engineering operations.
- Set up and maintain advanced audiovisual and collaboration systems used for engineering design reviews, virtual meetings, and training sessions.
- Document IT incidents, resolutions, configurations, and system changes in the ticketing system, supporting knowledge base growth.
- Collaborate with Level 3 engineers, IT managers, and external vendors to resolve high-level issues, implement new technologies, and support facility-wide IT projects.
- Follow IT governance and cybersecurity best practices, including data protection regulations and manufacturing standards such as ISO 9001 and NIST cybersecurity frameworks.
- Provide training and mentorship to Level 1 technicians and end-users on advanced IT tools, troubleshooting methods, and security awareness.
- Manage IT inventory and the asset lifecycle, supporting procurement decisions by evaluating and recommending hardware and software for manufacturing and engineering needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) and minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
- Alternative pathway: 2 years post-secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.

Pay transparency
Salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $68,500-$127,000. Salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $59,000-$110,000. Final offer amount may vary based on experience and geographic location. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
