Job Description

At the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, TX, this part-time IT Help Desk Support role serves as the first stop for everyday technology questions and issues. You will work front-line to keep museum staff productive by troubleshooting devices and applications, supporting guest-services systems, and helping maintain clean documentation and IT records.

This position is onsite and supports day-to-day technology needs across desktop and mobile environments, standard office software, and key business platforms. You will also assist with account and access requests, onboarding and offboarding logistics, and the movement and retirement of IT equipment.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the first point of contact for all staff submitting day-to-day technology support requests.
  • Use established procedures for incident intake, triage, and escalation to the appropriate team members.
  • Troubleshoot and support desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and desk phones.
  • Assist with setup, configuration, and deployment of hardware for staff.
  • Support basic software installation and configuration in line with department guidelines.
  • Provide front-line support for point-of-sale (POS) systems used in guest-services.
  • Help staff with basic issues in the donor/CRM database and ticketing platform, escalating configuration or data issues as needed.
  • Support account setup, password resets, and basic access requests.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding tasks, including device provisioning and return.
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and recurring issues.
  • Track IT equipment inventory as devices are deployed, moved, or retired.

What we’re looking for

  • 6 months to 1 year of customer service or technical support experience (help desk, retail technology, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of Windows desktop environments and common office software.
  • Strong customer service orientation with clear, patient communication.
  • Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule, including potential evenings, weekends, and holidays based on museum operating hours.
  • Coursework or certification in progress toward CompTIA A+ or a similar credential.
  • Experience with ticketing systems, point-of-sale systems, or CRM platforms.
  • Familiarity with mobile device management and basic networking concepts.
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career path in IT systems administration or infrastructure support.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with receptiveness to others’ ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve a wide array of desktop and technology issues.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented mindset aligned with mission-driven work.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize under time constraints.

Essential functions

  • Regularly required to stand and move throughout the museum, including public and back-of-house areas.
  • Regularly required to use hands for touch, handling, or feeling; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Regularly required to communicate by telephone, email, and other Perot Museum platforms (such as MS Teams and Zoom).
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move equipment and materials up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to be exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasional fumes or airborne particles when assisting with equipment setup and support.
