Job Description

The Civilian Pay Help Desk Technician supports DoD civilian employees by handling pay and entitlement inquiries, delivering accurate information and researching issues to resolve concerns.

Responsibilities

  • The responsibilities shown reflect the full performance level GS-06; duties at the entry grade GS-05 are developmental in nature.
  • The Civilian Pay Help Desk handles inbound phone inquiries and requests from customers, providing courteous, professional service and delivering a consistent, accurate experience in a timely manner.
  • Investigates leave and pay issues arising from inquiries, including special pay requests, validating and requesting changes to service computation dates, advising supervisors on overtime matters, and resolving debt-letter related issues.
  • The primary function of the Help Desk technician is to respond to inquiries in a high-volume environment with sensitive information related to entitlements and pay processes.
  • Evaluates eligibility for pay and benefits based on appointment type, pay plan, tour of duty, and work location.
  • Utilizes automated systems and databases to search records and customer accounts, consult procedures and guidelines, and explain information to customers.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Subject to a background or security investigation; position sensitivity and security level vary by role.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service (males born after December 31, 1959).
  • Suitable for Federal employment.
  • Obtain and maintain Financial Management Certification.

  • Location: Indianapolis, IN. This position is not eligible for remote telework; telework may be considered on a rare case-by-case basis when a compelling DoD need is identified.
  • Related financial experience and/or a related financial degree (Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related) per Direct Hire Authority.
  • Substitution of education and experience may be used to meet DHA qualification requirements.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty to the next lower grade in the federal service is required.
  • GS-05 specialized experience: performing financial duties supporting processing of financial transactions using standardized procedures, reviewing documents for accuracy, and inputting information into an automated system, correcting invalid transactions.
  • GS-06 specialized experience: processing a variety of non-routine payroll actions, establishing, adjusting and closing payroll accounts, and preparing and balancing payroll reports.
  • GS-05 substitution: four years of education above high school may be substituted for specialized experience.
  • GS-06 substitution: six months of graduate education may substitute for specialized experience when directly related to the position.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.

  • Background investigations may affect start dates and clearance timelines; a favorable security determination is required to occupy the position.
