Job Description
The State of Maryland, DBM OPSB Division of Personnel Services is hiring temporary SPS Help Desk Support (Administrative Specialist I) help desk support for the September 2026 to December 2026 period. This contract role supports system users through incoming support calls, helping employees regain access, complete key system steps, and resolve issues within the OPSB Shared Services Division.
The position is based in Baltimore, MD (remote), with core work hours scheduled 8:00am to 4:30pm for an eight hour day. Work equipment will be provided.
Role overview
- Provide system user support calls for the OPSB Shared Services Division.
- Reset system passwords and support employee access to required systems.
- Guide employees through system processes and help clarify steps to complete tasks.
- Follow up after support interactions to confirm issues are resolved.
- Share feedback about the system based on user needs and reported issues.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as a support role within the Division and be able to work independently.
- Assist with system user support calls.
- Reset system passwords as needed.
- Walk employees through system processes.
- Follow up to ensure issues have been resolved.
- Provide feedback about the system.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate (accredited).
- Six months of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
- Education substitution: 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.
- Military substitution: U.S. Armed Forces experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work that requires regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Benefits
- Subsidized health benefits coverage may be eligible for contractual employees working 30 or more hours per week (or on average 130 hours per month).
- Leave may be granted at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
Additional position details
- Grade: 10.
- Location of position: 301 W. Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
- Remote work is provided; work equipment will be supplied.
- Core hours: 8:00am to 4:30pm for an eight hour day schedule during these times.
Licenses, registrations, and certifications
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle.
- If assigned motor vehicle duties, a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland will be required.
Desired qualifications

- Intermediate experience with MS Office including Word and Excel.

Compensation and job type
- Pay rate: $25 per hour (USD).
- Job type: contract.
Selection process
- Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the eligible (employment) list for at least one year.
