IT Support Specialist
Job Description
Support the Technology team by providing Tier 1-2 desktop support across assigned Virginia Paving Company locations in Chantilly, VA.
Responsibilities
- Create, review, and triage Tier 1-2 support tickets on a timely basis
- Deliver end-user desktop support using remote support tools or by visiting locations as needed
- Install and configure new Windows 10 computers, monitors, and printers
- Assist with system administration tasks including server upgrades, updates, patches, and deployments
- Support architecture review and design and apply general best practices
- Create clear process and system diagrams and other supporting documentation
- Coordinate with vendors to execute software and firmware upgrades
- Track and generate monthly reports for outstanding issues
- Communicate professionally with users, vendors, and IT
- Attend meetings as required and provide regular, accurate status updates to project participants and department leadership
- Follow management guidance and adhere to company policies
- Assist with other projects and tasks as required
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of technical experience working with hardware and software
- Experience supporting Windows and working in virtualized environments
- Ability to use an ITSM system for change and incident management
- Experience providing end-user support with Windows 10, printers, and monitors
- Ability to assess customer needs and craft and deliver solutions
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and own tasks concurrently
- Willingness to work flexible or extended hours when requested and participate in an on-call schedule
- Willingness to share knowledge and support cross-training peers
- Ability to work independently and effectively with remote team members when needed
- A good driving record is required for hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Windows Server, server hardware, and domain administration
- Network troubleshooting experience including switches, routers, firewalls, and access points
- Experience supporting videoconferencing, printers, copiers, smartphones, and VoIP
- Experience with LAN and WAN environments
- Experience with Active Directory, DHCP, DNS
- Familiarity with SharePoint and Office 365
- Experience with antivirus and spyware removal
- Experience with backup and restore processes
- Microsoft training and related certifications are a plus

General Description
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned locations and collaborate across the organization as part of a team
- Support correct system operation and ensure staff has required access
- Process service requests efficiently to maintain continuous operations
- Provide Tier 1-2 support for desktops running Windows operating systems
- Triage software applications and assist users in efficient application use
- Provide clear, concise technical communications to escalate issues to senior leadership or vendors
Physical Demands
- Periodic physical effort including standing during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day
- Must be able to periodically stand for extended periods and stoop, bend, and crouch as needed to perform key duties
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects (40 lbs)
- Travel to locations to assist users or deploy systems as needed
Work Environment
- Primarily indoors
- Periodic visits to construction sites or asphalt manufacturing facilities may be required
- Office work environment noise level is normal
