Job Description

Based in Richmond, Virginia, the Department of Education Central Operations is seeking a Senior IT Help Desk Engineer for an onsite role. The position emphasizes advanced troubleshooting for complex software, networking, and hardware issues, leadership of vulnerability remediation initiatives, and ongoing IT operations support for the agency's technology environment.

Job Duties

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for help desk requests, resolving intricate software, networking, and hardware problems.
  • Lead end-to-end vulnerability remediation, including reviewing reports from Information Security, defining remediation steps, coordinating rollout, and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Manage agency computer refresh activities, including procurement of new equipment, seeking approvals for exceptions, and scheduling.
  • Administer admin consoles for multiple applications such as Adobe, PDQ, Microsoft, Verizon, and others.

Requirements

  • Experience in information technology, information security, or a related field.
  • Experience delivering help desk support for software and hardware issues and/or setups.
  • Knowledge of information security and technology within the public education setting.
  • Experience with technical writing and system documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret system vulnerability reports.
  • Familiarity with patch management.
  • Knowledge of networks, network traffic, and/or architecture.
  • Knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory.

Additional Considerations

  • Strong familiarity with Commonwealth of Virginia IT security policies and standards is preferred.
