Job Description

Hillsborough County Public Schools is seeking an on-site Department Manager to lead Tech Support, Information Technology, Infrastructure and Shared Services. This leadership role directs the Infrastructure and Shared Services teams, guiding the deployment and ongoing support of IT services district-wide while ensuring alignment with the school system’s objectives. The position emphasizes reliable service delivery, cost awareness, and collaboration across departments to support schools and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the rollout of IT infrastructure in support of the district’s mission and objectives.
  • Coordinate all user support teams to ensure cohesive service delivery.
  • Align the activities of computer administration and operations groups with district goals.
  • Act as the liaison between the infrastructure/shared services function and district departments.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while enhancing service quality.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring to assess IT costs and value.
  • Review policies and procedures and propose improvements to standardize processes.
  • Assess operations within the assigned area to continuously improve procedures, services, and school site support.
  • Provide training to staff on procedures and techniques required by the department.
  • Offer technical guidance and direction to the team.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with district departments, staff, and suppliers, and clearly communicate policies as needed.
  • Identify and resolve departmental issues, escalating to higher authority when corrective action is required.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing internal monthly and annual reports that reflect the department’s activities.
  • Represent the department in meetings with other district departments, suppliers, and public agencies related to the Division.
  • Manage the department, including oversight of programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise subordinate staff in performing their duties.
  • Ensure contract provisions are applied consistently through observation and training.
  • Gather and analyze data on personnel management, including turnover, succession planning, and absenteeism.
  • Develop written and online procedures within the assigned scope of work.
  • Continuously review policies to inform improvements and standardization of processes.
  • Represent the department in staff development requests, coordinating standard and special needs training as requested by other divisions.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with district departments, employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders, interpreting policies as necessary.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree is required.
  • Degree or formal training in information technology preferred.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in an information technology field.
  • Three years of related management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in public school administration, public school district administration, or other large diverse organizations preferred.
  • IT experience may substitute for the master’s degree at a rate of two years of experience for each year of education.
  • Certifications in related technical fields preferred.
