Desktop Support Technician
Job Description
Desktop Support Technicians deliver first-line technical support for hardware, software, and network systems to help business operations run with minimal disruption. This on-site role in Omaha, NE supports users at the main office and remote locations, managing IT requests through a ticketing workflow and maintaining day-to-day computer availability.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and repair laptops, desktops, and peripherals including monitors and printers.
- Install applications, troubleshoot operating systems in Windows and macOS, and manage user accounts.
- Diagnose issues such as systems that will not boot, replace malfunctioning hard drives, and resolve network printer connectivity problems.
- Provide technical support on-site or remotely by resolving employee IT issues and troubleshooting connectivity concerns.
- Support users at the main office as well as remote locations.
- Apply software patches, security updates, and run antivirus scans.
- Perform routine maintenance and system monitoring to keep endpoints running efficiently.
- Deploy computers and peripherals, and track inventory for devices including monitors and related equipment.
- Use Help Desk software to track, manage, and resolve IT support requests.
- Create user guides and update technical documentation for troubleshooting procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in technical support roles within an IT environment.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications, with comprehensive understanding of Windows support and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with computer networking concepts, including LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP, DNS configuration, VPNs, firewalls (such as Meraki), and network troubleshooting tools.
- Familiarity with operating systems including Windows (including Windows Server), macOS, and Linux.
- Ability to diagnose hardware issues across computer components and connected peripherals.
- Skill in analyzing technical problems quickly to identify root causes and implement timely solutions.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach for positive interactions with end-users across the organization.
