Job Description

The IT Support Technician role at Matcor Metal Fabrication provides frontline helpdesk assistance and infrastructure maintenance across both office and production environments. The position emphasizes issue resolution, device provisioning, network support, and ongoing IT upkeep, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver first level and foundational second level helpdesk support for desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, phones, mobile devices, docking stations, monitors, and general user issues.
  • Troubleshoot Windows systems, Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365, email, logins, printers, shared drives, VPN, and routine application problems.
  • Set up, configure, deploy, and maintain workstations, laptops, monitors, docking stations, printers, and other IT equipment.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including hardware setup, account support, access changes, and equipment recovery.
  • Respond to support requests promptly and professionally, documenting issues, resolutions, and equipment changes for traceability.
  • Support network-connected devices such as label printers, barcode scanners, shop floor PCs, tablets, time clocks, and production gear.
  • Help diagnose wired and wireless network connectivity issues using tools like ping, tracert, ipconfig, cable testers, and tone generators.
  • Assist with installing, labeling, testing, and documenting network drops, patch cables, switch ports, and equipment connections.
  • Support network switches, wireless access points, patch panels, racks, cabinets, and related infrastructure under IT leadership or external vendors.
  • Install and manage Ethernet cabling, patch cords, power cables, and equipment connections with proper labeling and tidy organization.
  • Maintain organized network closets, server rooms, IT cabinets, racks, and plant floor enclosures to ensure orderly environments.
  • Mount and install access points, cameras, network equipment, wall cabinets, monitors, docking stations, and other IT hardware as needed.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and outside contractors on cable pulls, equipment moves, and plant layout changes.
  • Respond quickly to production-impacting IT issues and provide support for plant floor equipment including industrial monitors and production-connected devices.
  • Work safely around manufacturing equipment and comply with all plant safety requirements.
  • Adhere to Operational Procedures and policies outlined in the Employee Handbook, including Quality and Environment programs such as IATF and ISO 14001.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support IT operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree, technical training, or IT-related certification is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of IT helpdesk, desktop support, network support, field service, or related experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Windows PCs, Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365, printers, peripherals, and common IT troubleshooting practices.
  • Basic understanding of Ethernet networking, IP addressing, Wi-Fi, switches, patch panels, and network-connected devices.
  • Experience with cable management, low-voltage wiring, network equipment installation, or structured cabling installation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, user account setup, and basic permissions preferred.
  • Familiarity with DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, firewall basics, and network documentation preferred.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+ or similar certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move IT equipment, climb ladders as needed, and work in network closets and on the plant floor.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to end users at varying skill levels.

Compensation

Salary: USD 55,000 - 75,000 per year

Onsite presence required in Lexington, North Carolina (Lexington, NC)
