Job Description

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking an IT Support Technician based in Houston, TX to deliver hands-on, responsive technology assistance across the school community. This contract role serves as the first point of contact for day-to-day tech needs, with work guided by the Director of Technology.

Role overview

In this onsite position, you’ll support faculty, staff, and students by troubleshooting routine technology issues, maintaining and deploying school-owned equipment, and helping users get access to the systems and applications they need. Support includes classroom and instructional technology, as well as ongoing equipment care and documentation.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide timely, professional technical support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Troubleshoot computers, laptops, tablets, Chromebooks, printers, projectors, interactive displays, audiovisual equipment, and other classroom technology.
  • Assist users with software, email, accounts, passwords, printing, applications, connectivity, and other routine technology issues.
  • Set up, configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot school-owned technology equipment.
  • Support student devices, including device check-in/check-out, loaner devices, repairs, and classroom device sets.
  • Maintain accurate technology inventory and help with equipment replacement, repair, warranty service, retirement, and disposal.
  • Prepare technology equipment and accounts for new employees, classrooms, and school programs.
  • Support user access to school systems, applications, online curriculum resources, and other technology platforms.
  • Troubleshoot basic network, wireless, and connectivity issues, and refer more complex problems to the Director of Technology or the appropriate service provider.
  • Support classroom and instructional technology, assisting teachers and students when technology issues interfere with instruction or learning.
  • Assist with technology installations, upgrades, software deployments, and other projects as directed by the Director of Technology.
  • Maintain documentation of equipment, support issues, and procedures.
  • Follow school policies related to cybersecurity, privacy, confidentiality, data protection, and acceptable technology use.
  • Deliver patient, courteous, customer-focused service to all members of the school community.
  • Perform other technology support duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.

Required education and experience

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience providing technical support in a school, business, or similar environment preferred.

Skills and qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Chromebooks, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with printers, classroom technology, audiovisual equipment, wireless connectivity, and basic networking.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to assist users with varying technical experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple support requests and work independently when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with children and adults.

Physical and schedule expectations

  • Regular movement throughout the school campus, including the ability to lift, carry, set up, and move computers and other technology equipment.
  • Ability to respond to technology needs in classrooms, offices, and other areas of the school throughout the school day.
