Lead Technical Support Engineer
Job Description
The Lead Technical Support Engineer role at Civan Lasers centers on directing technical service, installation, commissioning, training, and post-installation support for laser welding systems. The position requires frequent travel across North America and hands-on work in the application lab when not on site with clients.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the full deployment lifecycle of laser welding systems, including on-site installation, initial startup, commissioning, and securing customer acceptance.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for customer service and ongoing post-installation support.
- Identify and fix issues spanning electrical, mechanical, optical, controls, and process disciplines in both field and remote settings.
- Provide hands-on training to customers on safe operation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Coordinate service center activities, including management of service equipment and inventory.
- Manage the overall installation process with thorough planning before, during, and after installation to ensure a smooth workflow.
- Document service activities and transmit field feedback to engineering and applications teams for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the development of technical service standards.
- Support laser operation demonstrations and customer site visits in the application lab when not traveling.
- Represent the company professionally at customer sites and help foster strong customer relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in optics, photonics, laser engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Minimum five years of applicable experience, including installation, integration, commissioning, and or post-installation support of complex industrial systems in customer environments.
- Background in technical service, field service, installation, and or customer support engineering for industrial equipment.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with complex industrial equipment and technical systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently across North America.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers and internal teams.
