Temporary Help Desk Agent
Job Description
Harris County is hiring a Temporary Help Desk Agent to support election operations by assisting election workers and the public. This onsite role in Houston, Texas involves accurate phone support, information entry, and learning election-related procedures using the Help Desk manual.
Role Overview
The Help Desk/Call Center Agent will help enable smooth election day communications by answering inquiries, providing customer service, and supporting internal coordination across election departments. The position also requires understanding the voting process and the ePollBook application so that information can be explained clearly when calls come in.
Responsibilities
- Learn and apply all election content included in the Help Desk manual.
- Provide strong customer service to Harris County election workers.
- Support other election departments as needed, including projects and front desk backup.
- Multitask effectively, including speaking on the phone, typing on a computer, and reading from the manual.
- Report for shifts on time.
- Know when to ask for support or clarification during call handling and information entry.
Requirements
- Meet all eligibility requirements to register to vote in the State of Texas.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- Two (2) plus years of customer service experience.
- Ability to work under stress and perform duties without direct supervision.
- Knowledge of general election operations and the Harris County website.
- Professional approach and strong interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy, proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, and willingness to learn new programs and applications.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver clear communication.
- Understand and be able to explain the ePollBook application and the voting process.

Work Schedule and Position Details
- Position type: Temp Full-time
- Position end date: 12/18/2026
- Typical hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Overtime: As required, including extended hours and weekends during election periods.
- Physical demands: Primarily sedentary; walking and standing required only occasionally.
- Occasional exertion: Up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects including the human body.

Compensation
$17.00 per hour
