Job Description

The Desktop Support Technician role at APDerm is an on-site position in Acton, MA, supporting multiple company sites through day-to-day desktop and hardware assistance. The position focuses on troubleshooting, provisioning and access facilitation, and maintaining secure, efficient operation of IT hardware and business applications aligned with APDerm’s IT strategy.

Role Overview

In this role, you will maintain essential IT hardware and business applications, delivering on-site and main office/HQ desktop support across APDerm locations. You will address technical issues within the APDerm IT environment, support network equipment and related devices, and help ensure users have timely access to systems and workflows. The position may involve daily travel between sites for deployment and issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site and HQ desktop support, including device provisioning and support.
  • Install and support network equipment such as firewalls, switches, and access points.
  • Offer technical assistance for devices associated with ISP, security systems, data closets, postage and pathology technology, and other business functions identified by IT management.
  • Handle day-to-day assistance for hardware and technical issues across the APDerm IT environment, including troubleshooting and issue remediation.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant workflows and support build, training, testing, and end user access provisioning/facilitation.
  • Support hardware deployment and issue remediation, including daily travel between sites as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new technology resources to improve business process flow and technical efficiency.
  • Provide clear oral and written communication of task and ticket statuses, issues, process changes, and software enhancement goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years of professional technical support experience, or a 4-year college degree in a technical or business field.
  • Preferred certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security, CompTIA Fundamentals, CCNA, Microsoft Fundamentals, or related credentials.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 lbs (examples include desktop computers, monitors, and printers).
  • Ability to push or pull carts loaded with equipment.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to access under-desk equipment and cabling.
  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces, such as server closets, under desks, or behind cabinets.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components, cables, and tools.
  • Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders as needed.
  • Ability to work with prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting depending on task requirements.
  • Visual acuity for reading small print on labels, screens, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to safely handle and transport equipment across office floors or between buildings.
  • Occasional travel between worksites or office locations.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools for equipment installation and repair.

Location and Salary

  • Location: Acton, MA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 53,225 - 72,226 per year
