Help Desk I Specialist
Job Description
At Berlin-Wheeler, Inc., the Help Desk I Specialist role sits at the frontline of technology support for employees in Topeka, Kansas, onsite. You’ll be the first to respond to hardware, software, and connectivity issues, while assisting with setup, accounts, and both remote and on-site help. This position offers a clear path into Information Technology within a collaborative, stability-focused organization.
Compensation: USD 16 - 18 per hour
Responsibilities
- Deliver first-line technical help via phone, email, chat, and the ticketing system
- Diagnose common hardware, software, password, printer, and network connectivity problems
- Assist users with Microsoft Office, email configuration, VPN access, and system navigation
- Install and configure computers, monitors, peripherals, and user accounts
- Escalate more complex issues to senior IT staff when required
- Record issues, fixes, and support activity clearly in the ticketing system
- Provide courteous, professional service with patience and timely responsiveness
- Assist in keeping technology inventory organized and equipment tracked
- Support both on-site and remote employees as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of related help desk or IT support experience
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic understanding of computer systems, networking, and troubleshooting
- Ability to stay organized and manage multiple requests at once
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow
- Ability to explain technical information in simple, easy-to-understand terms
- Reliable attendance and strong problem-solving skills
- Previous help desk, technical support, customer service, or IT experience is a plus
- Certifications such as A+, Google IT Support, or similar are helpful but not required
