Job Description
The IT Help Desk Technician role supports USC Salkehatchie on-site IT operations in South Carolina, maintaining desktops, assisting the IT Director, and serving as a backup on the Allendale and Walterboro campuses. The position also manages IT supplies, image updates and upgrades, asset disposal, and end-user training and repair support.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain USC Salkehatchie desktops; assist the IT Director with daily tasks; provide backup coverage on the Allendale and Walterboro campuses.
- Procure and track IT supplies and computer inventories.
- Support the management and updating of computer images and system upgrades.
- Ensure proper disposal of obsolete computer assets in accordance with USC surplus property policy.
- Provide end-user instruction and training on proper operational procedures.
- Maintain end-user inventory records.
- Respond to failures of computers and smart classroom equipment following the repair ticketing procedures to the USC Salkehatchie Help Desk for prompt corrective action.
- Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Notify the IT Director at USC Salkehatchie about outages.
- Arrange repairs for leased equipment under maintenance contracts by contacting the appropriate vendors (for example network copiers).
Requirements
- Proficiency in desktop support, hardware, and Windows operating systems support is required.
- An associate degree with five years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree with two years of experience, is preferred.
