Job Description

This temporary, part-time IT Help Desk Technician role provides hands-on technical support to employees across the organization in Boise, ID. The position focuses on diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues, supporting end users, and maintaining accurate service and technical documentation.

Location and Schedule

  • Worksite: Boise, ID (onsite)
  • Job type: part time
  • Hours: up to 19 hours per week
  • Shifts: all shifts as needed, on short notice, with rotation including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays

Compensation

  • Salary: USD 17–20 per hour
  • Hiring note: offers are made within the posted hiring range to ensure internal equity and alignment with the approved budget for the position

Primary Responsibilities

  • Handle moderately complex IT support issues and refer more complex items to higher-level staff
  • Provide technical support city-wide for computer hardware and software systems via telephone, email, web, and in person
  • Identify malfunctions, interpret issues, and initiate corrective action to restore service
  • Assign issues to the appropriate department for corrective action and resolution
  • Review end-user steps prior to a malfunction to clarify correct procedures
  • Provide end-user training as required
  • Create, modify, maintain, and terminate user accounts for enterprise and/or department software applications
  • Deploy updates and applications as directed
  • Troubleshoot network server and connectivity issues
  • Assist with information requests from internal or external users
  • Develop and document procedures for installation and use of hardware and software
  • Maintain service logs
  • Update documentation to record new equipment installations, new sites, and changes to computer configuration
  • Document technical processes and troubleshooting guidance in the knowledge management database
  • Process vendor invoices and maintain fiscal year records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: One year of experience providing basic personal computer hardware/software support, including installing and configuring personal computers and/or peripherals, installing software, and performing routine file backup operations in a medium to large-scale computer or client/server system
  • Must be able to pass City of Boise background check processes, including a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
  • Must be able to pass the Boise Police Department Criminal Justice Information System Background Check (BPD CJIS)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of principles and practices for personal computer and/or network server operation
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for personal computers and/or network servers
  • Knowledge of network server software
  • Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and operation of computer hardware and software, peripherals, operating systems, and applications
  • Knowledge of methods for training end users on applications and processes
  • Knowledge of computer usage, including related software
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to install, operate, and troubleshoot standard personal computers
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, both verbal and written
  • Ability to train end users and communicate technical information to non-technical staff
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of new technology
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Ability to perform essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
