Job Description

Valencia College is hiring a part-time Specialist, Technical Support to support the Campus Technology Services (CTS) team. In this onsite role in Orlando, FL, you help keep desktop and classroom technology running smoothly, provide first-level resolution for day-to-day issues, and coordinate follow-up when problems need escalation.

What you will do

  • Receive and document technical support requests from classrooms, departments, and site users, then provide timely assistance for PCs, laptops, printers, peripherals, networks, and servers with clear communication across all service channels.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve first- and second-level hardware, software, and network connectivity issues, escalating complex problems to the Office of Information Technology (OIT) or vendors for timely resolution.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in problem, request, and resolution logs, and manage related materials such as user request forms, training manuals, and other supporting documentation.
  • Support maintenance, repair, training, and security for campus learning spaces, conference rooms, and common areas to help ensure facilities stay secure, accessible, and effectively operated by Technology Services.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software and technology assets including PCs, laptops, printers, instructional equipment, and computer laboratories, while ensuring correct network connectivity and maintaining inventory records.
  • Diagnose hardware malfunctions, replace components, and perform minor maintenance and repairs; coordinate major repairs with users, other college staff, and/or outside vendors when required.
  • Support training and inventory of technology-enhanced rooms and assist faculty and staff with computers, equipment, and software, including maintaining procedural manuals, FAQs, OIT web pages, and technical documentation as needed.
  • Support customer account creation and access privilege requests, and assist with port patching, cabling, and other LAN/WAN duties while maintaining hardware, software, and asset records.
  • Prepare hardware and software specifications and purchase requisitions within assigned responsibilities, and produce regular status reports and special project updates for tracking and communication.
  • Act as a liaison to college offices, committees, and other OIT division personnel, providing troubleshooting and hands-on support, including virtual college-wide support as needed.
  • Continue building job knowledge through learning opportunities, professional publications, personal networks, and active participation in professional organizations, while participating in college-wide escalation and communication channels.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License; a college vehicle may be required for essential job functions, including travel between campuses and within the local community.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Knowledge and/or applied skills in: computer platform and network operating system principles and practices; installing and configuring hardware, software, and network connectivity; troubleshooting hardware and software problems (including device errors and failures); standard software packages such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, and database programs; help desk functions, policies, and procedures; and research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively interpersonally, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues or escalate to management or vendor support areas as necessary.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain expected productivity levels.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, systems, and software and adapt to change on an ongoing basis.

Work arrangement and schedule

  • Flexible work arrangement: Majority/primarily on-site, with occasional remote work.
  • Work schedule: The exact schedule will be determined during the hiring process based on departmental needs, with scheduled hours potentially between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Working conditions

  • Work is performed in a professional office environment and throughout the College’s worksites and grounds.
  • In the office, routine operation of standard office equipment is expected (including computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines).
  • Outside the office, exposure to elements may occur, including wet or humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt and dust, fumes and smoke, and unpleasant odors.
  • The role may include hazards or physical risks that require following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment.
  • Physical competencies may include remaining stationary, moving, ascending or descending, positioning, reaching, and lifting or moving objects weighing 5 to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently involves communicating, exchanging information, and discerning objects up close and at a distance, including the ability to adjust focus.
