Technical Support - Woodshop
Job Description
Temporary, part-time onsite technical support role within a woodshop environment at NextFab (Philadelphia, PA).
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to NextFab members, including teaching and informal instruction
- Oversee safety in the shop and supervise safe equipment use
- Enforce NextFab safety, courtesy, and access policies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the shop
- Keep shop tools and equipment in safe, functional condition
- Maintain a high level of competence with woodshop tools and related processes
- Complete occasional other duties as requested by management
Requirements
- Experience working in a technical environment
- Woodworking or metalworking experience is required
- Thorough understanding of wood working OR metal working tools, techniques, and terminology
- Experience with digital fabrication and/or laser cutting is a plus
- CNC experience is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Customer service experience is a plus
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions
- Ability to work well with others

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of woodworking experience, or
- Completion of a vocational or apprenticeship program in woodworking or metalworking, or
- Three years of experience in woodworking or metalworking, or
- A satisfactory combination of experience is required
Work Location & Schedule
- Onsite (in person)
- Philadelphia, PA
- Part-time / contractor position
- Non-exempt / hourly role
- Evening and weekend hours required
Compensation
- $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
- Metalworking experience: 2 years (preferred)
- Woodworking experience: 2 years (preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds at times
- Prolonged periods standing and sitting in a shop environment
- Full range of physical motion required to operate manual and electric power tools
