Tech, Support School Rep
Job Description
Hillsborough County Public Schools is seeking an on-site Tech Services School Support Representative to deliver hands-on technical assistance across multiple Tampa-area campuses. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and install district technology, including networks, workstations, and devices, reporting to the Tech Services Supervisor. This role serves as a practical technical resource for district and school staff, ensuring reliable technology to support teaching and learning at several sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site school-level technical support and professional customer service guidance.
- Set up and install client workstations, network file servers, new computers, monitors, printers, scanners, and peripherals.
- Schedule site visits for routine maintenance on computers and printers; diagnose, track, and resolve hardware and software issues through diagnostic testing and appropriate problem-solving methods.
- Lead technology-related projects impacting client workstations district-wide or within learning communities.
- Install, upgrade, and configure new software and network and device drivers for new or existing computers; maintain software inventories.
- Assist with maintaining site-based networks and computer labs; install and maintain servers.
- Keep current with department procedures and district technical standards, offerings, equipment, and applications.
- Communicate user issues and feedback through established channels.
- Foster teamwork to improve ongoing performance and align with district goals.
- Meet and sustain departmental quality and productivity standards.
- Demonstrate a solid aptitude for technology to perform duties effectively.
- Perform root-cause analysis and determine resolutions for problems.
- Communicate network operation status, respond to service disruptions, and assist with district-wide specialized technology needs.
- Research and stay current on technologies in computer networks, hardware, software, and telecommunications; participate in district workshops and training sessions.
- Assist with large-scale implementation of new technologies.
- Support end users and consult with schools on technology issues within a customer-service framework.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in computer networking.
- Completion of a formal computer or data processing program from a vocational or commercial school may substitute for one year of specialized experience.
- Additional coursework in a related content area may be considered as a substitute for experience in the field.
- Language skills: reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations; writes reports, correspondence, and manuals; effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.
- Mathematical skills: performs arithmetic operations in all units of measure, including rates, ratios, decimals, and interprets bar graphs.
- Reasoning ability: applies common-sense understanding to carry out instructions and handles problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer skills: knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
