Technical Support Engineer β Field Service & Production
Job Description
Riber Inc offers a hybrid Technical Support Engineer role in Hillsborough, NJ, combining on-site field service for MBE/UHV systems with production and assembly work in the facility. The position covers installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades, with opportunities to travel internationally. You will document service visits, support customers directly, and collaborate with engineering and sales teams, supported by a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites to install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair MBE/UHV systems
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and vacuum-related issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation
- Conduct preventive maintenance and implement system upgrades
- Maintain direct customer communication and document service visits, root causes, and corrective actions
- Provide technical support for sales, including producing basic quotes
- Occasional travel on short notice, including international trips
- Assemble mechanical sub-systems and components for UHV/MBE systems per drawings and work instructions
- Read and interpret 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings, with SolidWorks preferred
- Execute precision mechanical assembly of vacuum chamber components, flanges, fittings, and motion hardware
- Assist with wiring and electrical integration of sensors, gauges, and controllers
- Collaborate with engineering on fit checks, first-article builds, and design feedback
- Coordinate with vendors, enter BOMs for assemblies, and assist with inventory management
Requirements
- BS degree in engineering preferred; an associate degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or a related field is acceptable
- At least 2 years of experience in mechanical assembly, field service, or technical support, ideally with capital or scientific equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using hand tools, following torque specs, and performing precision fastening and assembly
- Working electrical knowledge to read basic schematics and wiring diagrams, troubleshoot with a multimeter, and understand common industrial protocols such as RS-232/485, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, or similar
- Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings
- Willingness to travel up to 40 percent, including international trips and occasional short-notice travel
- Valid passport and ability to obtain travel visas as needed
- Comfort representing the company to customers with strong communication skills
- ITAR: Eligible to access ITAR controlled technical data for defense-related customers, typically requiring US citizenship or permanent residency (verify with HR/legal)

Compensation
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
