Technical Support Specialist

Cattaraugus-Allegany-Erie-Wyoming BOCES is seeking a Technical Support Specialist (Audio/Visual Focus) for onsite work across New York State. This Civil Service position centers on deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting advanced audio/visual (AV) systems and integrated auditorium multimedia technologies, while also delivering computer-related support that keeps customers and internal teams up and running.

Salary: $52,223 per year. Location: New York State (onsite). Minimum experience: 2 years.

What you’ll do

• Troubleshoot technical problems and provide computer diagnostics; notify appropriate technology staff of software failures.
• Provide technical advice to users regarding data communication equipment and data transmission.
• Install, configure, and maintain desktop, laptop, tablet, and PDA hardware, along with peripheral equipment.
• Discuss software applications with users to determine satisfaction and the need for modifications.
• Install application software on networks and maintain network documentation; assist with administration of a local area network (LAN) for state and local personal computer networks.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies such as toner, ribbons, and printer cartridges.
• Distribute data processing output to users.
• May train administrative, support, and clerical staff in basic computer usage and office application software.
• May update manuals and files on system operating procedures and develop reports through the State Legacy System.

Your AV and auditorium systems focus

• DMX lighting control systems and theatrical or auditorium lighting infrastructure.
• Crestron control systems and integrated room automation technologies.
• Sound reinforcement and public address (PA) systems.
• Video display technologies, including projectors, LED displays, digital signage, and associated distribution platforms.
• System integration, commissioning, and end-user training.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school (or high school equivalency diploma) plus one of the following pathways:
  • A) Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field (or equivalent).
  • B) Completion of a one (1) year certificate program in Computer Science or electronics and one (1) year experience installing, operating, maintaining, and/or diagnosing a data communication network or electronic equipment.
  • C) Two (2) years of experience installing, operating, maintaining, and/or diagnosing a data communication network or electronic equipment.
• Degree must be awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• If your degree was awarded outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
• Pay the required evaluation fee.
• Special requirement for appointment in school districts / BOCES: For positions involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
