Desktop Support Technician
Job Description
Sarasota County Government is seeking an onsite Desktop Support Technician to support County employees across multiple facilities. In this Tier 2 role, you will troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and technology service requests, while also participating in deployments, refreshes, documentation, and an ongoing 24/7/365 on-call rotation.
Role & Scope
- Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 2 hardware, software, connectivity, and technology service requests
- Provide onsite technical support across County facilities while operating an assigned County vehicle
- Prepare, configure, deploy, replace, and support computers and peripherals as part of technology refresh and deployment programs
- Collaborate with EIT teams and escalate complex or high-priority issues as needed
- Create, maintain, and update technical documentation, knowledge articles, and support procedure
- Participate in EIT projects and technology implementations, including testing, deployment, documentation, and training
- Provide onsite technical support for priority incidents, operational needs, and other EIT activities
- Participate in the 24/7/365 on-call rotation
- Maintain and expand technical knowledge through training, research, and self-directed learning
- Operate and maintain an assigned County vehicle
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- On-call technical support rotation with other Desktop Support staff
- Each employee will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency
What You’ll Need
- Two (2) year degree AND two (2) years of work experience as a desktop support technician or related role
- OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Administration, Management, Business, Engineering, Communications, Project Management or other relevant field, with some related experience
- OR Four (4) years of related work experience may substitute for formal education requirements at management discretion
- Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire
- Subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening
Preferred / Relevant Technical Skills
- Microsoft 365 Certified
- Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or equivalent CompTIA A+ Certified
- Experience with Dell computers, monitors and peripherals (hardware and software)

Compensation & Benefits
Starting pay range: $31.16/hour (USD 31 - 31 per hourly).

Additional Requirements
- CJIS clearance: successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as part of the hiring process
- Physical demands: frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; handling devices (dolly, cart, etc.) and/or another team member may be used for lifting 50+ lbs
- Required first day documents: I-9 acceptable documents (Florida Driver’s License may be used if required by the position) and a U.S. Social Security Card (signed, physical card)
Education Level
Two (2) year degree is required, or a Bachelor’s degree as an alternative.
