Job Description
Join Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co, a globally connected engineering leader, for a benefits-forward, remote-enabled role based in Newport News, VA. From our location, you will deliver remote and on-site engineering support for Liebherr mining trucks and autonomous haulage systems, operating on a 24/7 roster with up to 12-hour shifts (one week on, one week off). Responsibilities
- Provide remote and on-site engineering support to ensure product reliability, functionality, and cost targets, covering verification, troubleshooting, validation, and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
- Resolve issues promptly by coordinating with affiliates, customers, Engineering, and suppliers to deliver effective solutions.
- Analyze data from Product Incident Reports, Product Assembly Reports, and incident tickets to identify and fix problems.
- Participate in Product Issue Resolution through data collection and Root Cause Analysis to address field failures.
- Maintain a communication link between affiliates or customers and Regional Customer Support Managers to ensure quality service offerings.
- Assist Regional Customer Support Managers, Engineering, and other departments to resolve product problems and accelerate solutions.
- Alert the organization to potential or known issues affecting product quality and service delivery.
- Recommend hardware design changes and functional updates to systems to enhance performance.
- Contribute to design reviews and verification/validation planning for new or redesigned components.
- Review and validate new components, designs, and corrective actions to improve truck performance and reliability.
- Ensure campaigns such as notifications, modifications, and upgrades are carried out by customers and affiliates, with documentation provided to the factory.
- Provide technical input for service manuals, technical instructions, service information, engineering change requests, and training materials.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to manage risks related to design, functionality, and customer relationships.
- Oversee assembly and commissioning to ensure alignment with factory specifications and customer requirements.
- Sign off and submit commissioning documents to LME Warranty administration prior to customer acceptance.
- Utilize CAD software to perform specified engineering tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (BSME, BSEE, BSCS, or related) and at least 3 years of relevant experience in mining or engineering environments.
- Practical experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems in surface mining is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Teams, Outlook, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to interpret technical documents such as schematics, drawings, procedures, manuals, and safety regulations; clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability, data analysis, and the capacity to develop alternative solutions in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with mathematical concepts and basic circuit analysis for low voltage electrical systems; understanding of electric drive and hydraulic system design in mining equipment.
- Knowledge of autonomous haulage systems, CAN/J1939/DDS, ROS, and wireless telemetry as applied to surface mining; PLC control on mobile equipment knowledge; Creo View CAD software familiarity.
- Ability to develop project plans, allocate resources, manage risk, and follow change management procedures.
- Customer service skills, including managing challenging interactions, with a commitment to self-development and peer training.
- Travel willingness up to 20 percent domestically and internationally; valid driver’s license and passport; MSHA certification; electrical certification in high, medium, and low voltage.
- This role is eligible for remote work from within the local area.
