Job Description
The Chapin School offers a on-site, Mac-focused technology environment that supports students, faculty, and staff. This full-time, year-round IT Support Specialist role in New York, NY provides a competitive salary of $75,000–$85,000 per year and the opportunity to collaborate closely with the technology team and managed service providers to minimize classroom and operational disruptions. The position reports to the Director of Technology and emphasizes impact on student outcomes through reliable, secure, and user-friendly technology support.
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for technical support via the ticketing system, phone, email, and in person; triage, resolve, and escalate issues following established procedures.
- Provide macOS, iPadOS, and application support for students and staff, including diagnosis, software installation, and configuration.
- Set up, deploy, maintain, and repair Apple hardware and peripherals, and manage devices through Jamf Pro and other endpoint management tools.
- Support the device lifecycle for students, faculty, and staff by provisioning, enrollment, and end-of-life activities per senior technology staff procedures.
- Deliver account and access support within Google Workspace and related cloud services, including password, MFA, and access tasks under established controls.
- Provide A/V, livestreaming, and classroom technology support for lessons, meetings, assemblies, and events, including setup, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
- Offer front-line support for Canvas, assisting teachers with class pages and day-to-day inquiries.
- Support onboarding and offboarding of faculty and staff, including device and account provisioning.
- Maintain accurate ticketing, asset, and inventory records; contribute to documentation, knowledge-base articles, and standard operating procedures.
- Apply security controls and update compliance in daily work; flag anomalies to senior technology staff and support a security-conscious culture.
- Collaborate with the broader technology team and managed service providers; serve as an on-site contact for routine support and coordination.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed to meet the school’s needs.
Requirements
- Two or more years in end-user or service desk support with a focus on Apple devices.
- Hands-on troubleshooting and repair of macOS and Apple hardware.
- Experience with Jamf Pro or another mobile device management platform.
- Experience supporting users through a ticketing system.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace administration and common cloud applications.
- Basic networking literacy, including wireless and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Basic familiarity with Windows in a secondary or legacy capacity.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

About this role
The technology team at The Chapin School maintains a predominantly Mac environment to support educators, students, and staff. The IT Support Specialist is the on-site first point of contact, working with the Director of Technology, the broader technology team, and MSPs to minimize technology friction and enhance learning outcomes. This is a full-time, on-site position with occasional adjustments to working hours to support school events.
Physical requirements
- This is an on-site role requiring regular in-person presence during the school day; substantial hands-on work with devices and classroom A/V support.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to approximately 40 lbs unassisted, with assistance for heavier items as part of a team; frequent standing and movement across the campus.
