Job Description

Lightology LLC is hiring an on-site IT Support Specialist in the Chicago area to deliver front-line technology support and manage endpoints across multiple locations. In this role, you will support users and systems spanning about three Chicago-area sites, working closely with the IT Manager and regularly interfacing with senior leadership.

This position is hands-on and centered on troubleshooting, endpoint management, and the successful delivery of IT projects with minimal supervision. You will work with roughly 200 users and 300 systems, including workstations, servers, and virtual machines.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide front-line technical support and endpoint management for approximately 200 users (predominantly remote) and around 300 systems (workstations, servers, and virtual machines) across three Chicago-area locations.
  • Collect the information needed to resolve issues by asking clarifying questions independently.
  • Share regular status updates on support activity and project progress.
  • Deliver IT projects on time with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems using a methodical troubleshooting approach, aiming to identify the root cause rather than relying on trial-and-error.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of hands-on IT support experience supporting both remote and on-site users.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience supporting, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows 10/11 desktops and laptops.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both workstation and server issues for remote and on-site users.
  • Strong diagnostic discipline to follow a logical, methodical path to resolution and correctly identify root cause.
  • When tasks are unclear or requirements are ambiguous, ask clarifying questions before proceeding.
  • Microsoft 365 administration with hands-on, day-to-day tenant management, including user and license management, mailboxes, groups, policies, security settings, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on hardware repair (required), including confident device opening and repairs such as installing a graphics card, replacing a cooling fan or laptop keyboard, and swapping RAM or storage.
  • Apple iOS support (required) for setting up, configuring, using, and troubleshooting iPads and iPhones.
  • Networking knowledge with emphasis on VLANs, including switching concepts, VLAN segmentation, core IP addressing, DHCP, and DNS fundamentals.
  • Hands-on capability for network cabling, including running, terminating, and testing Ethernet (RJ45) cabling and working with patch panels and structured cabling.
  • Wi-Fi setup and troubleshooting for enterprise wireless and access points.
  • Ability to support VoIP/telephony, including softphone and desk phones.
  • IoT device setup and network integration.
  • Working familiarity with RMM (Remote Monitoring & Management) and MDM (Mobile Device Management) platforms.
  • Working understanding of AI tools and platforms, including helping administer them through user management and monitoring policies and usage (examples referenced).
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects and drive them to completion.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to take full ownership of tasks and projects and complete work without constant reminders or status chasing.
  • Proactive, clear communication of task and project status, including completion updates and blockers.
  • Good judgment on when to proceed independently versus seeking direction, including escalation when needed.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and adherence to scheduled working hours.
  • Strong personal accountability and integrity.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship (including H-1B) is not available.
  • On-site Chicago-area role with regular travel between Fullerton, Skokie, and the Chicago showroom; position is not remote.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for travel and transporting equipment between locations.
