Microcomputer Technical Support Specialist
Job Description
A West Seneca, NY based Microcomputer Technical Support Specialist role with an hourly rate of USD 3,336.
Responsibilities
- Support the Senior MCTSS in managing the WNYRIC Remote Backup Service
- Assist the Senior MCTSS in administering the WNYRIC Off-Site Cloud Backup Archive Service
- Assist the Chief MCTSS and Senior MCTSS with operating WNYRIC's on-site data center facilities
- Provide training to internal and external users on the WNYRIC Remote Backup Service and the WNYRIC Off-Site Cloud Backup Archive; training may occur remotely or on-site as directed
- Ensure IT infrastructure is secure, backed up, and patched in accordance with testing procedures
- Install and maintain server operating systems (Linux, Windows, and others) on physical datacenter hardware, on-premises virtual servers, and cloud environments
- Install and maintain approved vendor-supplied software
- Maintain accurate inventory records for datacenter equipment and virtual servers
- Monitor datacenter supplies and report shortages to the supervisor
- Maintain up-to-date infrastructure skills through training sessions, vendor conferences, and by consulting blogs and forums
- Plan physical datacenter layouts, determine hardware placement and rack configurations with regard to power usage, fault tolerance, availability, and disaster recovery; route cables inside and between server cabinets
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Travel to datacenter sites as required and escort authorized users and vendors on site
- Travel to school facilities where students, teachers, and administrators are present as needed
- Coordinate with WAN team members for network configuration changes and to sustain optimal network performance
- Submit firewall rule changes as needed for datacenter operations infrastructure and services
- Coordinate with ServiceNow administrators to submit and maintain electronic forms required for datacenter operations
- Utilize the ServiceNow ticketing system for incidents, infrastructure requests, and changes
- Evaluate infrastructure technologies and provide recommendations to the supervisor
- Develop and maintain documentation for datacenter operations infrastructure and services
- Perform physical tasks such as keyboarding, lifting, and handling IT equipment weighing over 60 pounds
- Accept other duties as assigned that align with the civil service job description for this title
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of computer programming experience, including a minimum of one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- Associate’s degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field plus four years of data processing experience, including two years of programming and at least one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- High school diploma or equivalent with six years of data processing experience, including two years of programming and at least one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- Equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by options A, B, and C
- Two or more years of enterprise-level virtualization administration experience
- VMware vSphere required; familiarity with Hyper-V or KVM platforms (VergeOS, Proxmox, HPE VM Essentials, etc.) is a plus
- Two or more years of enterprise-level SAN and/or hyper-converged infrastructure administration experience
- iSCSI required; NVMe-over-TCP and RoCE knowledge is a plus
- Two years of physical datacenter administration (racking, power distribution, cable management)
- Two or more years of Windows and Linux server administration in an enterprise environment
- Enterprise backup software administration experience is a plus (Veeam and Cohesity)
- Enterprise network switch management experience is a plus
- Enterprise inventory, monitoring, and logging experience is a plus

Job Qualifications
- A) Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited or NYS registered institution with two years of computer programming experience, including at least one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- B) Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited or NYS registered institution with four years of data processing experience, including two years of programming, and at least one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- C) High school diploma or equivalent with six years of data processing experience, including two years of programming and at least one year programming or maintaining vendor-supplied operating software
- D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by (A) through (C)
- Additional Qualifications: Two or more years of enterprise-level virtualization administration experience
